Why the Massage Comes First: Inside the 80-Minute Jacuzzi Package
Sixty minutes of aroma massage, then twenty in the jacuzzi. Why the order is fixed, what happens at each step, and how to get the most out of the water at the end.
Every jacuzzi package at Ego European Spa runs in the same order: sixty minutes of aroma massage, then twenty minutes in the water. Guests sometimes ask whether they can swap it around, bath first and massage after, and the answer is no, on purpose. This post explains why the sequence is fixed, what each part of the 80 minutes does, and what to do at each step so the package lands the way it is designed to.
The short version
The massage does the work; the jacuzzi is where it settles. An hour of aroma massage warms the muscles, slows the breathing and quiets the mind. If you then get dressed and walk out onto 4th Street, the first ten minutes of traffic, phone and daylight undo a good part of that. Twenty minutes in warm water with salt or rose extends the quiet instead of ending it. That is the whole logic of the package.
Reversing it would mean arriving at the massage table already warm and loose, which sounds pleasant but is the wrong preparation. Aroma massage relies on the therapist feeling where the tension is and working it out over the hour; on a body that has just been soaking, the tension is masked, the oils sit differently on damp skin and the session loses its structure. Massage first, water second.
Step one: the consultation
Before anything starts, a few minutes with your therapist in the language you prefer, Russian, English or Arabic. Three things get decided here. The pressure, on a simple scale from the lightest comfortable to as firm as aroma massage allows. Anything to avoid, such as a recent injury, a sensitive area or a skin reaction to a particular oil. And the mood you want from the session, because the oil blend is chosen from that answer: to switch off and sleep, to feel clearer, to lift a heavy day. Say which package you booked, Ocean Salt Ritual or Desert Rose Bath, so the water is prepared in time.
This is also the moment to mention that you would like the same therapist next time; every technique page names the person who leads it, and reception honours repeat requests when the schedule allows.
Step two: sixty minutes of aroma massage
The aroma hour is the same treatment sold on its own at AED 400 for 60 minutes, and it is the one we recommend to first-time guests. Long, flowing strokes with warm oil, the whole body from the shoulders to the feet, the pace kept deliberately slow. The first minutes are lighter so the muscle warms before any firmer work; the middle of the session is where the therapist stays longer on the areas you named; the last minutes are lighter again so you are not lifted off the table with the nervous system still braced.
Two things make the aroma hour different from a Swedish or deep tissue session. The pressure stays in the light-to-medium range throughout, and the oil blend is doing part of the work, so the room smells of what you chose at the consultation rather than of a generic massage oil. If at any point you want the pressure changed, one word is enough.
Step three: twenty minutes in the jacuzzi
While you finish the massage the jacuzzi is drawn with mineral sea salt or with rose, depending on the package, so you move from the table to the water without waiting. The twenty minutes are yours. Most guests sit in silence; some fall asleep for a few minutes. Salt gives a clean, mineral finish and the feeling of having been rinsed after an hour of oil; rose gives a softer, fragrant finish that lingers on the skin afterwards. Which to choose is covered in detail in our guide to Ocean Salt or Desert Rose.
What to do in the water: nothing. Do not check the phone, do not plan the rest of the evening, do not count the minutes. Reception keeps the time so you do not have to.
Step four: recovery
After the jacuzzi there is filtered water, a clean robe and unhurried time before you dress. The recovery is not counted against the 80 minutes and nobody rushes you. Guests who book the package in the evening often sit in reception for a few more minutes before calling a taxi from inside the hotel; the spa is open until 02:00 every day, so late packages are normal.
How to get the most out of the package
- Arrive ten minutes early. The consultation is short but it decides the oil blend and the pressure; walking in late means starting the massage flustered.
- Do not eat a heavy meal right before. An hour on the table followed by warm water is more comfortable on a light stomach. Dinner afterwards in Deira is the better order; Al Rigga Street is two minutes on foot.
- Skip caffeine for a couple of hours before. It works against the slowing down that the aroma hour is trying to produce.
- Drink water afterwards. The massage moves fluid through the body and the warm bath adds to it; a glass at reception and more through the evening keeps the next morning comfortable.
- Keep the evening free. Two hours from the hotel lobby back to the hotel lobby, and ideally nothing demanding after that.
Why twenty minutes, not longer
Guests occasionally ask for a longer bath. Twenty minutes is the right length after an hour of massage: long enough for the body to settle and the mind to stay quiet, short enough that you do not overheat or start to feel restless. Warm water on a body that has just been massaged for an hour works quickly; the effect is in the first ten minutes and the second ten are for enjoying it. A longer soak would not add to the package and would push the whole visit past the two hours most guests can comfortably give it.
The consultation decides the oils
One part of the sequence is easy to overlook. The oil blend used in the aroma hour is chosen at the consultation from what you say you want: to sleep, to feel clearer, to lift a heavy day, to recover from a flight. That choice also colours the water at the end, because the scent of the massage carries into the bath, especially with the rose package. If you have a strong preference, say so before the massage starts, not at the jacuzzi. If you are sensitive to fragrance, say that too; the therapist chooses a lighter blend and the salt finish rather than the rose.
After the package
Drink water at reception and through the evening, keep the next hour unhurried, and skip the gym for the rest of the day; the muscles are warm and loose and do not need to be loaded. Most guests sleep deeply the same night. If you want the effect to last, a plain aroma or Swedish hour two or three weeks later keeps the rhythm without needing the water every time; the packages are the occasion version of a routine that works just as well at AED 400 for the hour.
Who the package suits
The package is for guests who want relaxation rather than a fix for a specific muscle problem. If you have a knot under the shoulder blade or a tight lower back that needs real pressure, book deep tissue or hot stone instead and keep the jacuzzi package for another day. If the goal is to switch off after a long week, to mark an occasion, or to recover from a flight without being worked hard, the aroma hour plus the water is exactly the right format.
It also suits guests who are new to spas. The aroma technique is gentle, the pressure is adjustable, and the water at the end is a familiar, comfortable way to finish a first visit.
Prices, place and booking
Both packages, the Ocean Salt Ritual and the Desert Rose Bath, are AED 490 for 80 minutes. Ego European Spa is inside Jannah Dubai Creek Hotel, formerly Edge Creekside Hotel, on 4th Street in Riggat Al Buteen next to Deira Clock Tower, five minutes on foot from Union Metro and about fifteen minutes by taxi from the airport. Parking inside the hotel is free for spa guests. Open every day from 10:00 to 02:00.
To book, write to +971 58 273 9307 on WhatsApp with the package name, the date and the time. The package needs a room and the jacuzzi free back to back, so a few hours’ notice on weekdays and a day ahead for weekend evenings is sensible. The full timeline and the questions guests ask most are on the jacuzzi massage page.
Questions about the sequence
Can I have a longer massage before the jacuzzi? The packages are built around the 60-minute aroma hour. If you want 90 minutes on the table, book the aroma massage on its own for 90 minutes and ask reception whether a jacuzzi finish can be arranged on that day; we answer for the specific date rather than promising on the page.
Can I choose a different massage technique before the water? The printed menu pairs the jacuzzi with the aroma hour only. Ask reception about your date; if the schedule allows something different they will say so.
Is the jacuzzi private? Ask reception when you book and they will tell you exactly what to expect for the water part of the package on that day. We would rather you hear it from a person than assume it from a web page.
What about a sauna or steam room afterwards? There is none; Ego is a massage spa and the two jacuzzi packages are its only water treatments.
The order is the package. Massage to loosen and quiet, water to let it settle. Give it the full 80 minutes and it works.
