Before You Arrive

  • Drink an extra glass of water — most pre-spa bodies are mildly dehydrated, especially in summer or post-flight
  • Skip caffeine for 1-2 hours if you can — it sharpens cortisol and works against the parasympathetic shift
  • Avoid heavy meals 60-90 minutes before — lying face-down on a full stomach is uncomfortable
  • Wear comfortable, easily-removed clothing — loose trousers or a dress, soft top, simple shoes
  • Skip jewellery, watches, and complicated layers — everything has to come off and be stored
  • Bring a hair tie if your hair is long
  • Plan to arrive 10 minutes early for the consultation and changing process

During the Session

  • You are draped at all times — only the area being worked on is exposed, and re-covered before moving on
  • Communicate pressure if needed — a single word ("lighter," "firmer") is enough; the therapist will adjust immediately
  • Silence is the default — most guests close their eyes within five minutes; conversation is welcome but not expected
  • Mention discomfort instantly — anything that feels off (too hot, too sharp, too cold) — say it the moment you notice
  • Breathe slowly — slow controlled breathing accelerates the parasympathetic shift; the therapist may pace strokes to your breath
  • Phone on silent or off — even a vibration disrupts the meditative state for you and other guests

After the Session

Take the recovery moment seriously — most guests rush back into their day too quickly and lose the benefit. After the therapist finishes, you have 10-15 minutes alone in the dimmed treatment room before re-dressing. Use this time to come out of the deep relaxation gradually rather than abruptly. Drink water on your way out (we provide it at reception). For the rest of the day, avoid alcohol if possible, eat a light meal rather than a heavy one, skip strenuous exercise, and aim for an early night. The benefits compound when you let the post-session state extend into the evening rather than overriding it with stimulation. If you booked a Deep Tissue session, mild next-day soreness is normal — drink extra water, take a warm bath if you can, and avoid heavy lifting for 24 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear to a spa appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing you can easily change in and out of — loose-fitting trousers or a dress, a soft top, and easily-removed shoes work best. Avoid jewellery, watches, and complicated layered outfits because everything will need to come off and be set aside before the session. Once you arrive, you change into a robe in private, and during the massage itself you undress to your comfort level (most guests keep underwear on, but the choice is entirely yours). The therapist works under sheets and towels with proper draping at all times — only the area being worked on is exposed. Bring a hair tie if your hair is long. Anything you wore to arrive can be folded and stored in the changing area while the session runs.

How early should I arrive for my appointment?

Plan to arrive 10 minutes early at Ego European Spa. This gives you time to settle in our reception area, change into a robe in private, and complete a brief consultation with your therapist before the session timer begins. The reception is a quiet space with seating, complimentary water, and a calm atmosphere designed to help you transition out of city pace before the massage starts. Arriving exactly on time means the consultation eats into your treatment time — your booked 60-minute slot includes the consultation as part of the hour, so 5-10 minutes of late arrival shortens the actual massage. For couples treatments and Four Hand sessions, both partners (or both therapists) need to be ready simultaneously, so the 10-minute buffer matters more. If you are running late, message us via WhatsApp at +971 58 273 9307.

Is tipping expected at Dubai spas?

Tipping at Dubai spas is appreciated but not strictly expected, similar to other premium service contexts in the UAE. Standard practice if you wish to tip is 10-15% of the session price, given directly to the therapist or left at reception in cash with the session payment. Most regular guests at Ego European Spa do not tip every session and prefer to give a more substantial tip occasionally — for example, on the third or fourth visit with a particular therapist, or after a session that exceeded expectations. Tipping is never invoiced, asked for, or implied during the booking or session. If you are visiting Dubai for the first time and are unsure about tipping conventions across different services, the spa is a context where the absence of a tip is genuinely fine — service quality does not depend on the expectation.

How does draping work during the massage?

Draping is the practice of keeping you covered with a sheet or towel during the entire session, except for the specific area the therapist is working on at that moment. At Ego European Spa, draping is non-negotiable — every guest is properly covered from start to finish, and only the back, leg, arm, or other area being actively worked on is briefly exposed. This is European-tradition spa convention and is followed regardless of guest gender or therapist gender. When the therapist moves from one body region to the next, they cover the previous region before exposing the new one. You should never feel exposed at any point. If for any reason you feel uncomfortable, mention it to the therapist immediately and the draping will be adjusted. This includes guests who want extra coverage beyond the default — completely accommodated.

Can I talk during the massage or should I stay quiet?

Either works at Ego European Spa, and most therapists check in once or twice during the session to confirm pressure and comfort regardless of how chatty you are. The majority of guests prefer silence so they can fully experience the meditative effects of the technique — relaxation deepens significantly when the verbal/conversational part of the brain quietens. If you want to communicate something specific (a tense area to focus on, lighter pressure, a request to skip a region), simply say it and the therapist will adapt. There is no expectation either way. Soft conversation does not break the technique. Long monologues or anxious chatter sometimes indicate the guest hasn't yet relaxed; the therapist usually slows their stroke rhythm to invite quiet without saying anything. Both modes are completely normal.
